2009-05-28: A new version of Topos2Go has just been submitted for review to the App Store. With this update, Topos2Go will perform map tiling in the background while you have a map open. This way you won't have to view an area of the map for it to get tiled. It will be tiled while you are viewing other map regions. You will be able to check tiling progress by bringing up the info page while viewing the map. This will be available in both the free and full versions of the app.

2009-05-03: Topos2Go version 1.3 is now available in the app store. Version 1.3 adds an embedded web server into the app. This allows you to upload/download your maps to/from the device. This will make it a lot easier to get your own person maps into the app. The paid version includes the ability to import and export waypoints through the web server. Waypoints can be imported in GPX format and exported in GPX and KML formats. The update includes several other changes based on user feedback. Thanks for the feedback and please keep it coming!

2009-04-05: Tops2Go version 1.0.3 is now available in the app store. This version adds waypoint functionality. Drop, move and edit waypoints. This feature is available in both the free and paid versions.

What is Topos2Go?

Topos2Go allows you to view and locate your position on topographic maps on your iPhone. You can download freely available maps and store them on your device for use without WiFi or cell access. To try before you buy see Topos2Go Free.

Topos2Go was developed with backcountry hiking and backpacking in mind. Unlike mapping apps that simply cache map data, Topos2Go gives you full control over the maps that are stored on your iPhone. You select the maps you want on your device and they stay there until you delete them. You have no worries about whether or not your cached data will still be there when you look for it in the backcountry.

Features include:

Map Availability: Topos2Go's primary source of maps is TopoQuest which provides extensive coverage of North America including high quality USGS topo maps. You can also direct Topos2Go to other sites with maps. Try Topos2Go Free to see if this app fits your map needs.

Map Compatibility: Currently, Topos2Go supports maps in GeoTIFF format with UTM and Albers Equal-Area Conic projections. If there is an unsupported GeoTIFF map you wish to use, please contact support@cynicsoftware.com and request its inclusion.
